Baitut Tamwil Hidayatullah (BTH) plays a crucial role in the community economy through Sharia-based financing aimed at supporting MSMEs and eradicating usury. However, the al-Qard contract—a social financing scheme without profit—often faces repayment challenges that impact public trust and institutional sustainability. This qualitative field research analyzes problematic al-Qard financing at BTH Umat Mandiri Balikpapan to assess its compliance with Sharia principles and the effectiveness of risk resolution. Data collection involved observation, interviews, and documentation, which were analyzed using Islamic law provisions. The study yielded two key findings. First, the financing mechanism at BTH Umat Mandiri complies with both internal procedures and Sharia principles, specifically strictly prohibiting interest (Riba). Second, problematic financing is primarily driven by customer-related factors, including urgent financial obligations and unstable income levels. These factors lead to delays in installment payments, violating the previously agreed-upon schedules.
