Abstract

The change in the utilization of wakaf land is not an uncommon issue in society, driven by various underlying factors. Among these are limited land area, the inadequacy of the mosque for renovation, and the growing number of congregants. This study aims to explore the perceptions of the management of Masjid Babussalam Gunung Samarinda Balikpapan Utara regarding the change in the utilization of wakaf land, as well as the Islamic legal perspective on these perceptions. The research employs a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews conducted with mosque management as respondents. The data obtained were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicate that all mosque managers agreed on the change in the utilization of the wakaf land, based on several considerations. The study concludes that the management of Masjid Babussalam prioritizes the greater public benefit (maslahah) over the preservation of the original purpose of the wakaf. Therefore, the common interest is given priority over individual interests.
